Approximations to the Halting Problem
نویسنده
چکیده
The halting set Kr = (x I r converges}, for any G6del numbering ~ = {~0, ~1 ,-..}, is nonrecursive. It may be possible, however, to approximate Kr by recursive s e t s . We note several results indicating that the degrees of recursive approximability of halting sets in arbitrary GSdel numberings have wide variation, while restriction to "optimal GSdel numberings" only narrows the possibilities slightly.

Some improvements in fuzzy turing machines
In this paper, we improve some previous definitions of fuzzy-type Turing machines to obtain degrees of accepting and rejecting in a computational manner. We apply a BFS-based search method and some level’s upper bounds to propose a computational process in calculating degrees of accepting and rejecting. Next, we introduce the class of Extended Fuzzy Turing Machines equipped with indeterminacy s...
متن کاملLearning classes of approximations to non-recursive function
Blum and Blum (1975) showed that a class B of suitable recursive approximations to the halting problem K is reliably EX-learnable but left it open whether or not B is in NUM. By showing B to be not in NUM we resolve this old problem. Moreover, variants of this problem obtained by approximating any given recur-sively enumerable set A instead of the halting problem K are studied. All correspondin...
متن کاملOn the Uniform Learnability of Approximations to Non-Recursive Functions
Blum and Blum (1975) showed that a class B of suitable recursive approximations to the halting problem is reliably EX-learnable. These investigations are carried on by showing that B is neither in NUM nor robustly EX-learnable. Since the definition of the class B is quite natural and does not contain any self-referential coding, B serves as an example that the notion of robustness for learning ...
متن کاملOn Approximating Real-World Halting Problems
No algorithm can of course solve the Halting Problem, that is, decide within finite time always correctly whether a given program halts on a certain given input. It might however be able to give correct answers for ‘most’ instances and thus solve it at least approximately. Whether and how well such approximations are feasible highly depends on the underlying encodings and in particular the Göde...
متن کاملGenetic Programming, Indexed Memory, the Halting Problem, and Other Curiosities
The genetic programming (GP) paradigm was designed to evolve functions that are progressively better approximations to some target function. The introduction of memory into GP has opened the Pandora's box which is algorithms. It has been shown that the combination of GP and Indexed Memory can be used to evolve any target algorithm. What has not been shown is the practicality of doing so. This p...
